I've been keeping track of all the news articles about tini wine bar's conversion to home/made on Twitter. And most excitingly, we were in the NY Times today.

The girls from Mushpot Records are spinning garage, girl groups and indie pop at Botanica on Thursday [Facebook]
My friend Steve Camacho introduced me to the The Bran Flakes a couple of years ago. The song in question sampled Kermit the Frog. I had a children's radio show and spun the track "Good Times A Goo Goo" from time to time. Illegal Art's innovation was still foreign to me, so in my shallow music beginnings I thought nothing of it. Enter a couple years of working for Girl Talk, Steinski, Realistic, Negativland and Oh Astro. Ok, now that I have been historically caught up, I can appreciate The Bran Flakes and their ambitious all-sample 30 track album I Have Hands. My favorite song is "Stumble Out of Bed" which stutters Dolly Parton's "9 to 5." Can't wait to drop this in a DJ set.
I enjoyed pouring the liquid from the spicy cumber in my rice. I also enjoyed pungent femented spicy bean curd. My roommates warned that it was strong and an acquired taste. I said, "You're talking to the girl that will eat stinky-ass Tallegio and Epoisses without flinching." It was really good, but only eat a bead sized portion per couple of bites.
I hopped over to Botanica after work last night in my brand new pink dress to find a jovial bunch of dance floor gentlefolk. The DJ booth was set up downstairs in the cavernous basement with candles and color-changing optical light fibers. When I arrived, Carmine was spinning an epic vocal exposition of La Roux's "In for the Kill." As if in prayer, Rudy M.Sixteen and I bowed our heads while held our hands in the air. It was on! My girl, Vida, spun old school pop with Miami flair. Yes, there was Journey and Michael Jackson. From what consciousness I can remember, Rudy had quotes of Little Boots and Yo Majesty somewhere in there. I jumped in for a super quick funky set while everyone was winding down: Hiroshima - "Da Da" War - "Gypsy Man" Marathon - "I wanna Dance" Michael Moog - "You belong to me" (Double Deauce Remix, AHEM STRICTLY TEST PRESS)
After our salad dinner, my roommates and I planned to go to the Brooklyn Public House for St. Patrick's day. We were steered away by crowds and unsavory characters, so we opted for another neighborhood spot: Sputnik. We didn't order one of their burgers but they were only $5.95! We have to come back and try them. We had the fries (without parm because my roommate is vegan) with some special sauce and added chili powder from the kitchen. I was sniffing it and picking out onion powder, seasoning salt, garlic powder, cayenne and something else I couldn't figure out. But it was good! We played a card game called "In a Pickle" and it was confusing. The bartenders were jovial and welcoming, patrons were chill and there were portraits of puppets on the wall by a regular named Marty. We ended our stay with some Irish Car Bombs and wandered off to Sweet Revenge for some Connect Four (2 Yuengling Black and Tans for $2)! What a jolly holiday!
With garlic toast ! My roommates are pregaming St. Patrick's day with a nice healthy salad. We're heading to the Brooklyn Public House in Clinton Hill for some Irish Car Bombs! My good friend Jean asked for the recipe:
Vegan Grapefruit and Radish Salad 1 bunch of spinach 1 bunch of arugula 2 radishes 2 cloves of garlic 1 grapefruit 1 blood orange or meyer lemon 1/3 of a baguette, sliced in half lengthwise 1 tablespoon of olive oil dash of dried sage Salt and Pepper
Wash the greens thoroughly, submerging the leaves in a bowl of cold water. Let the sand fall. Dry the leaves in a salad spinner or on towels. Slice the radishes into rounds and slice each round into matchsticks. Set them aside in a dish and sprinkle with a little salt. Crush the garlic and rub it onto the baguette. Toast it lightly.
Place the greens in a mixing bowl and supreme the grapefruit over it. Set the slices aside. Squeeze the remaining juice onto the salad as a vinaigrette. Add the olive oil. Toss it together with salt, sage and pepper.
Lay a wide single layer of salad on a plate. Drape grapefruit slices and radish sticks onto it. Add another layer of salad and top with the garlic toast. Zest the orange onto the toast.
For you un-vegans, slather a thick layer of butter onto the toast with salted radish discs.
Pork Meatballs kinda tasted like Spaghetti O's, take that however you want. The cheese was an untearable island and the pork itself was a little too sweet for me. I could have used some red pepper flakes or something.
Before I became BLT/IDM or anything else in New York, I was a mousey little radio DJ at KDVS in Davis, CA. During my stint at the station, I was nurtured and guided by Todd Urick--an inspiring individual who wanted to connect all local radio and low power FM stations in California and beyond. He is also notorious for meticulously creating the huge KDVS Manual and reader for the training class! If things were broken, Todd was probably responsible for fixing it and making sure it didn't happen again. You also might remember that he was in the band Oh, Dark Thirty with Jenny Logan (who is now Brooklyn based and in the band Ribbons).
I've recently learned that Todd has been suffering painful health problems and needs our help. If you can spare any cash to help our KDVS brother out, you can donate at his website.
I was happy to discover that Lure Fish Bar still had their Restaurant week menu. I had the raw bar of oysters and clams, sushi and the ice cream sandwiches for $35. Cava was also only $32 for a bottle.
